Kathmandu, Nepal.

Some sadhus employ deliberately transgressive practices to free themselves of sensual passions and transcend the illusory physical world. The most notorious of these spiritual excercises is trying a heavy stone, or as in the photo, using a stick, to the penis, thus destroying the erectile tissues and helping to tame the distractions of sexual desire.

Ya know...you don't have to hurt the penis to extinguish sexual desire. Really >< Just takes a strong and willing mind! If you can control your mind you can do anything.

What i don't get is why people thing that this guy :

1. Is brainwashed by religion. Maybe this guy isn't brain washed and wanted to do this or this is a part of his culture.
2. Should not resist sexual desires and become a horndog. Not everyone gives into sexual desires. Ever heard of people with low sexual drive or is asexual?

This is such a strong picture. I love the shadows and brightness and the stone strength of his face. Question: did you take black'n'white photo, or did you change it into with the help the PS? Because it looks like it's been in color before. If not, I shake your hand with amazing wielding with colors of the camera as well as capturing such a moment.

And those that have problem with these practices, it is his choice, it should be honored and not spit upon or questioned. It is a great step in his life towards something more than physical. Frankly, I wish I could be on that level, but alas, living in material world changes your mind and mentality.
Face it, we are mutilated beyond repair. Imagine his life, his peace and his head free of everyday stress we go through for simplest of things. And most of our religions are made on the idea of being afraid of every wrong step we did in our life, and we will come in touch with our inner self, nature or whatever the superior thing you believe in (or not), only, maybe, probably not, only if we are good enough, perhaps, after our death when our due to this world is complete. And even then, most religions lie on the foundations that we will get other responsibilities and we will ENJOY fulfilling them into eternity.

Yes, we are so more advanced.

Nice reflection here, to answer your question, I always shoot in color, and then post process with in greyscale with photoscape, just a minor change, but it helps me to keep the details clear that way.

As for your opinion, I agree with you on many points, and I would also add that them guys are very brave and strong to enter the sadhu path, such a life is far from being easy.

congrats on your well deserved daily. im sure it is bitter sweet with the trash filling you mailbox. don't let them get you down. much love and respect!
to anyone else other than the artist reading this.
Once again the masses of deviant art to my abject horror have proven two things.
one: when it comes to respecting the model and the artist's work they lack the maturity, and critical thinking to do anything other than spew their repugnant ignorance upon anything that challenges the delicate sensibilities they use to shelter themselves. This man made a perfectly valid life choice. respect that and shut up.
Two: The alleged DEVIANTS of DEVIANTart need to LOOK UP the definition of DEVIANCY.

at the end of the day, its a photo, of a man who has made choices in his life for the honorable pursuit of spiritual affairs. It tells a story, something a portrait ought to. It makes the viewer think and question while being visually appealing to look at, prolonging the response evoked from the viewer. something art is supposed to do.
it's art. no one made you look at it and you can stop at anytime you want. quit your bitching.

It's funny to me how horrified people are by this image. The definition of mutilation is very much dependent on culture. There are plenty of people 'mutilating' themselves with plastic surgery in our country. For some reason our culture believes that in order to be the object of sexual attraction cutting open or disfiguring a natural part of the body is 'normal,' but changing one's body in order to lead a celibate lifestyle is unthinkable. To me, unneeded and excessive plastic surgeries are much more horrific.

How are they much more horrific? What this man is doing is not just changing his physical appearance but his urinary tract, and hormone levels as well. Someone changing their nose is not comparable to losing the nose entirely, now is it? Also just because something is part of a culture doesn't give it a free pass. In china some pharmaceutical companies extract bear bile from bears that live their entire lives in pain and in a cage, it is a part of their culture, but does that make it any less horrible? No.

Hey, Michael Jackson's nose just about fell off at the end there. Plus, boob jobs and a lot of other surgeries are more invasive and carry risks of infection/death-- probably as or more damaging even than this in the worst case scenario.

He inflicted this on himself. He's not hurting an animal or another person because of his cultural beliefs. If he were, I would have had a different response.I mean, at least he still has it. There are plenty of cultures where people self-castrate.

I don't even know what is happening in that pic so if you say bewb jobs are more invasive... what you mean by invasive, then I will just believe you because I am too lazy to look further into this.

An animal is not being hurt... why are you telling me this? that was not my point at all. Stop bullying me.

Fuck that. I don't find it "mutilating" nor am I "horrified." It just plain looks like it hurts. A concept a woman wouldn't grasp, quite well enough.

Although, you have to admit...this looks pretty painful...

First off...Awesome name XD (when I found that book in Skyrim i was like teh fuh? XD)

That was just my opinion on the matter...I think plastic surgery is rediculous. I don't understand why people think that they have to look like a barbie doll to look "pretty"...most people who did that looked so much better before it in my opinion.

I understand of course this is your opinion but I just wanted to share that when getting plastic surgery it makes the person feel better about themselves you know? Like you can tell someone that they look fine without plastic surgery or make up or anything of the sort but if they don't think they do then that person should be able to feel a lot more comfortable if they're willing to pay the price to get it done :)

Of course your opinion is your opinion I guess I just wanted to share mine because it seemed you just thought it was done for shallow reasons only.

Yeah, I think everyone is entitled to their own opinion, but I still see the procedure as nothing but destructive...Just think if what it would be like if that was never invented? Nobody would have to worry about it...but I won't drone on...I've said my piece, and it's all I'm going to say on the matter.

-Good day, and Goodbye.
