Watch your Fish by Nattygrego

/ / ©2012-2015 Nattygrego
I got up early and went to hang around in an old street that will soon be destroyed and replaced by office buildings. Very lively place. As I was taking photo, I heard this man complaining. He was like "look at the foreigner, he is taking photo of people but doesn't pay them", of course he assumed I couldn't understand what he was saying. Then I looked at him and he did too, he was selling fish. I then noticed that a cat seized the opportunity to eat some bit of it as the man was complaining about my presence.

Watch your Fish by ~Nattygrego A photographer draws the attention of the seller and a...cat gets lucky. A wonderful street scene. ( Featured by StamatisGR )

Me again although you probably don't remember me. I've also been around these poor areas (I'm Chinese) and it's a very eye-opening experience. Don't know if you know what I mean by it though.

I would not necessary call these area "poor", I'd rather call them "real". what is the eye opening experience to me, is that these part of the cities are disappearing, and very soon they will no longer exist, China will lose a lot, just by replacing them with skyscrapers....

Not quite sure if we're talking about the same thing. When I see these areas, the children helping their families at work and elderly playing board games outside, it's real life. Here in UK I hear most people my age talking about FIFA (football video game) and it seems everyone thinks life is easy. The children that have to work know it isn't though.

Isee what you mean. Iniquity exists everywhere though. No need to go to UK to hear youngsters thinking life is easy. In Chinese city you can still find lots of youngsters who don't even know the slightest thing about their country, just because they have had the chace to born in a wealthy family

A lot harder to find someone that knows what real life is here though.

That...is a rather funny story. You may want to circle the cat in red with photoshop or something though. I can barely see it. XD

I hope you said back to the man in his language "Well I was going to pay him a bit, but now you've put me off the idea." That's the best thing to do when someone thinks a different language is carte-blanche to act like a dick.

wow - such a lively shot - love that the cat is stealing some fish - My professor was in Cambodia one time taking pictures of people working in the field and she said it is so hard to take pictures of people because they expect to be paid.

I love fully candid street shots like this. You did a great job capturing this one small moment. Everyone is just going about their lives, and we get to see a bit of it. I also like that the cat managed to sneak into the photo and add a little humor.

Of course! People don't normally know about these parts of China. My family is from China, not the super rich but just better than minimum wage. I've been round those parts many times, the side of China that many people don't see. So of course, this does deserve a DD.

That's ok, my scholarship was originally for Beijing Culture and Language University (北京语言大学) but I was placed in Qufu Normal University, seeing as I'm from the Confucius Institute.

Half of the people I know in Canada have never heard of Shandong province, and the rest have never heard of Qufu.

I am a big fan of this picture...!
It is "good fish...good street"...

I imagine...
this fisherman...
with his baskets full of fish...
travels to this market...
in this giant car...!

Greetings and congrats on the DD...Jakob.
